An easy, everyday butter made with love, herbs, and a little help from Gourmend.

There’s something about a good compound butter that just makes a meal feel special—and this Simply Herb Compound Butter is exactly that. It’s meant to be accessible, flexible, and gentle on the belly. Whether you have fresh herbs from the garden or dried in your pantry, this recipe comes together effortlessly.

CHEERS 🥂 JENN

This version is especially close to my heart because it’s made with Gourmend Foods—a brand I trust for low FODMAP, gut-friendly cooking staples. Their Garlic Scape Powder and Green Onion Powder bring the classic flavors we all love, without upsetting sensitive tummies.

A NOTE ON INGREDIENTS

I created this recipe specifically in partnership with Gourmend Foods, using their gut-friendly seasonings to make something comforting and easy for anyone, especially those with sensitive digestive systems. Whether you’re cooking for yourself, your family, or guests with dietary needs, this herb butter is a simple way to add a little love to your table.

That being said… my family unanimously agrees that they prefer this version over any of the other methods I have tried. Even for those without digestive issues, you will love this recipe!

MAKING THE BUTTER

In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the olive oil, herbs, garlic scape powder, green onion powder, and salt until everything is well combined.

STORAGE DETAILS

Herb compound butter can be kept in the fridge for several days to a few weeks. If you want to make a bigger batch and save some for later, you can freeze it for up to a few months. I recommend freezing in small portions—like in an ice cube tray or rolled into a log and sliced—so you can pull out just what you need.

Ideas

COOKING WITH KIDS

  • Measuring & Pouring: Let them measure out the herbs, garlic scape powder, and salt. This is a great opportunity to talk about teaspoons and tablespoons.
  • Mashing & Mixing: Once the butter is softened, kids can use a small spatula or wooden spoon to mix everything together. It’s a great sensory task—soft, squishy, and satisfying!
  • Herb Snipping: Older kids can use kid-safe scissors to snip fresh parsley or chives into small pieces. Let them smell and taste each herb as you go—learning through the senses.
  • Rolling the Butter: If you’re shaping the butter into a log to store, kids will enjoy helping wrap and roll it up in parchment paper.

HOW TO USE IT

I love spreading this herb butter onto a slice of crusty bread, then toasting it to make a beautifully golden herb toast. It’s the perfect pairing with a cozy pasta dinner or a bowl of soup. For a full how-to, check out my Easy Garlic Bread recipe (Coming Soon)

You can also dollop this butter onto steamed vegetables, melt it over grilled chicken, or swirl it into warm rice or mashed potatoes. However you use it, it’s a little flavor boost with minimal effort.

Use it, freeze it, gift it—however you use it, I hope this becomes a staple in your kitchen like it is in mine.

Cheers! 🥂
