Honey Mustard Sauce

close up of honey mustard dipping sauce being poured into a with a spoon

I have a deep appreciation for dipping sauces, and honey mustard is definitely my favorite. Its delightful combination of sweetness, tanginess, and a subtle kick pairs perfectly with classic fried chicken nuggets (recipe coming next week). I made this sauce years ago for my husband and me, and I’m excited to finally share it with you!

I created this recipe to be simple and easy to follow, using ingredients you likely already have in your pantry or fridge. It yields a modest ¼ cup of sauce, intentionally keeping it manageable to avoid excess. This also makes it convenient to double or triple the recipe when you need more for dressing or serving a larger group.

WHY YOU’ll LOVE THIS RECIPE

  • Perfect balance of sweet and tang: This recipe is sweet and tangy with a hint of spice. From the honey to the type of mustard, each ingredient adds to the signature flavor of this Honey Mustard.
  • Simple to Make: Whisk all the ingredients together and serve! That is it! To quote Ina Garten, “How is is that?”
  • Better than any Store-Bought: Just one bite, and you’ll agree that this homemade version is so much more flavorful!
  • Simple Ingredients: Everything you need is likely already in your pantry!
  • Versatile: This is not only a great dipping sauce; it can also be a great salad dressing.

ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS

You only need four ingredients to make this honey mustard sauce! You probably have them all in your kitchen already!

  • Mayonnaise contributes creaminess and essential fat to this tangy sauce.
  • Honey provides the signature flavor profile and sweetness you look for in honey mustard.
  • Dijon mustard imparts sharpness, tang, and a subtle spice not found in yellow mustard.
  • Lemon juice brightens everything up.

MAKING YOUR HONEY MUSTARD

Simply put everything in a bowl and whisk together until mixed.

You can adjust each ingredient to your taste. Want it sweeter? Add a little more honey. Need to amp up that mustard taste? More Dijon! My suggestion is to add ¼ teaspoon of addition at a time.
