Freezing Pancakes: A Step-by-Step Guide

This easy guide covers the best method for freezing and reheating homemade pancakes (yes, even chocolate chip and blueberry!), plus tips for using eco-friendly Stasher Bags and getting kids involved in the kitchen. A perfect make-ahead breakfast solution for families!

Can you freeze pancakes? Absolutely. And not only am I going to show you how to freeze them so they stay just as fluffy and delicious as the moment you flipped them—I’m going to show you how to make this process a total win with the kids and save your freezer from becoming a pancake puzzle disaster.

Gone are the days when pancake mix was the only shortcut. With this guide, you’ll be starting your mornings with from-scratch goodness—even on school days. (Yes, really.)

And here’s the kicker: you’re not limited to plain ol’ pancakes. Whether you’re Team Chocolate Chip or #BlueberryForever, these freezing tips work for every flavor.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  1. Stasher Reusable Silicone Storage Bags – I swear by the stand-up bags for family batches and the sandwich bags for grab-and-go portions. They’re sustainable, space-saving, and oh-so handy.
  2. Baking Sheet
  3. Silicone Mats (optional but so helpful for avoiding the sticky pancake shuffle)

HOW TO FREEZE PANCAKES:

STEP 1: Freeze Flat First

Lay your cooked pancakes in a single layer on the baking sheet (make sure they’re not touching). Pop them in the freezer for at least 2 hours until fully frozen.

PRO TIP

If you’re using Stasher bags, label and date them before loading them with cold pancakes. (Trust me. Cold pancakes + chalk marker = smudge city.) See my Reels video below for a quick demo!

STEP 2: Bag Them Up

Once frozen solid, slide the pancakes into your Stasher bag of choice.

  • Use sandwich bags for 3–4 pancake portions, perfect for lunchboxes or a solo breakfast win.
  • Use stand-up bags for bulk family-style batches.

STEP 3: Remove Air + Freeze

Seal tightly (push out the air!), and return the bag to the freezer. That’s it! You’re officially winning at breakfast meal prep.

HOW TO REHEAT PANCAKES:

From a Stasher Stand-Up Bag:

Grab 1–3 frozen pancakes, place on a microwave-safe plate, and heat for 1 minute. Add 30 seconds if needed.

From Individual Sandwich Bags:

Pop open the bag and microwave the pancakes inside for about 1 minute. Easy peasy!

A KID-FRIENDLY FREEZER PROJECT

  • Have them help lay out the pancakes on the baking sheet (great for practicing spacing).
  • Let them label the bags with names or pancake flavors (chalk markers + doodles = instant win).
  • Encourage them to create their own “pancake packs”—a mix of chocolate chip, plain, blueberry, or whatever their little tastebuds dream up.
  • Carefully press a store-bought crust into the pie dish

NEED A RECIPE?

So, what pancakes are you freezing first? Whether you’re stacking ’em for a big family brunch or prepping weekday breakfasts in advance, freezing pancakes the smart way is one of those kitchen tricks you’ll wish you knew sooner.
