I’m so excited to share my next hat pattern. The Nikki is a special one for me because it is the very first hat pattern I created!!

nn

The Nikki is a slouchy hat with tons of texture. This is (of course) a knit and crochet hat using a knit brim and a crochet hook for the hat body. But of course, if you’re not a knitter, no worries, I also tell you hot to make the brim using a crochet hook as well.

How it Began

n

I had made a trip to one of my fav LYS, Unwound, where, yet again, I found way more things than I had planned (#sorryynotsorry). But, I saw this super cute yarn by Dye Money Yarns in this amazing red color called Cranberry that I HAD to buy (Fun fact: in 2019 Wisconsin was the #1 producer of cranberries).

n

I sat around trying to decide what I wanted to do with this amazing yarn and after some thought, I decided I wanted to myself a hat. I remembered one of the first things I learned how to do with knitting was a folded brim hat, but I wanted lots of textured, and more versed in crochet techniques at the time than knit. and so the merge was created.

n

I was playing with design, while one of my friends was up for a visit during the holiday season. She helped me get the final look I wanted for the hat. So of course, the name of this hat was after her (thanks Nikki)!

nn

I’ve made this hat for myself and all my daughters. In fact, my 3rd kid just asked that I make her a second one because the first one I made her is now too small.

nnn

Below are examples of the hat in Toddler, Kid and Adult. The Blue is the toddler size in ,Dye Monkey Yarns – SW Salsa. The Red is an Adult Size hat also in ,Dye Monkey Yarns – SW Salsa. The white is also an adult size, made with an alpaca tube yarn (now discontinued). And the Pink one is my latest finished hat, in kid size. I used ,Fairy Tale Yarns – ,Queen’s Worsted specifically in I Must Not Tell Lies.
